Hockley County Sheriff Kevin Davis resigns
HOCKLEY COUNTY, TX (KCBD) -
Sheriff of Hockley County Kevin Davis has resigned from office effective January 13, 2012. Davis tells KCBD he is leaving the position to pursue an opportunity in the private sector.
Davis took over as Hockley County Sheriff after the previous sheriff was removed from office after some Hockley County deputies were arrested in a major federal drug bust.
When I accepted the appointment to this office in 2009, I did so believing it was the right thing to do, Davis said in a Dec. 27th press release. I also knew that it would likely be the most challenging time of my career and it certainly has been. My goals at that time were three fold, one: to restore public trust, two: to restore working relationships with outside agencies and three: to vastly improve the level of service the citizens of this county were receiving…. The Hockley County Sheriffs Office is in much better condition today, than where we first began in terms of public trust, cooperation and effectiveness
Davis announced in November that he would not be running for election to the office in 2012.
